Discover Hamilton
Architectural. Creative. Agricultural. Beautiful. Cultural.
Artistic flare, botanical beauty, sensational shops and an extravaganza of events. Hamilton is a thriving regional centre.
Whether it’s browsing through great shops, discovering art down hidden laneways, or experiencing our 50,000-head sheep sale, Hamilton offers an amazing array of experiences for all travellers.
Operating as an epicentre to the pastoral industry for over 160 years, Hamilton’s cultural encounters are entrenched in the wealth of its natural assets and the annual Sheepvention is a perfect example of that. Since 1952, Sheepvention has been Hamilton’s Pastoral and Agricultural Society’s prize show, affording you the opportunity to take in all things sheep plus meet producers, taste local produce, compete, admire, shop and lots more!
Architectural forms, vibrant colourings, geometric shapes, structured statues, painted paths, embellished walls –local art is everywhere in Hamilton. It lines the laneways, fills the gardens and covers the walls. Not only can art be viewed in the public arena, scattered around the CBD but Hamilton also boasts the magnificent Hamilton Gallery that presents a diverse range of exhibitions, programs and events. Hamilton is renowned for its artistic flare, inspiring performances and cultural experience.
Also lining the streets of Hamilton are a plethora of welcoming cafes and shops. Hamilton has created and embraced a lively cafe culture; dishing up delectable dishes and of course strong and satisfying coffee. Hamilton also offers sensational strip-style shopping. The wide open streets of the CBD means that walking and shopping within Hamilton’s heart is a pleasant and purposeful experience.
Walk amongst enormous English Oaks and pines, fountains and rotunda in the Hamilton Botanic Gardens. The gardens are the perfect spot to spend a fun afternoon with children as acres of well-manicured lawns invite games and picnics. Lush and verdant surroundings continue at Lake Hamilton; a pristine lake surrounded by 25 hectares of parkland. Ideal for all-round adventure – fishing, cycling, sailing, running, rowing, windsurfing, canoeing and playing at the Lakes Edge Adventure Playground.
Hamilton’s central position makes the perfect launching pad for a stay in the Grampians (Gariwerd), but be sure to dedicate time to exploring the joys of this great city and the Greater Hamilton region.

Local Love
Aside from the uber colourful nourish bowls, the welcoming smell of fresh coffee and the truly tempting baked goods that you’ll find at Cafe Grey – you’ll always be welcomed with a smile by local owners Tim and Jess.
Both born and bred in Southern Grampians, Tim and Jess have a classic country footballer meets netballer love story, that saw them stay in the region to raise their own little family and business.
”We love being able to share in people’s everyday special moments. Every week we have a mother and her adult son, who come and meet here for their weekly catch up. Often they will know who else is coming, so they may sit at a four seater table, and they share their catch ups with other locals. It’s really special, and we love being a part of their every day”.
Cafe Grey’s nourish bowls are simply amazing (almost a must-do if we’re being honest) and a friendly chat with Tim, Jess and their team is equally rewarding.
